My name is Anna, I love art and have always loved creating new things. Three years ago I decided to share my creations with the world and started my own business.
I love painting, playing my violin, and creating all types of art. But sculpting clay and sewing are two of my favorites. I’m Anna, the owner and creator of Made By Anna D.
I have always wanted to start a business since I was in first grade. I asked my mother to purchase me a domain name and she jokingly told me that she would do it if I gave her a business plan. I had no idea of what that meant, but she explained it to me and a day later, I gave her a business plan that I made using crayons and markers. I decided on the name, “Made By Anna D”, because I couldn’t decide at that time what I wanted to create.
Fast forward to 6th grade… I was in an accident in PE and suffered a major concussion. I had an excruciating constant headache that was not relieved by anything. I was told by my doctors to try to do something artistic to take my mind off of the pain. So, I began to create miniature items with clay. I created so many items, that I talked my parents into letting me be a vendor at a local craft show at the high school. I have always been creative, but it seems that after the concussion, I became even more creative.
On Halloween of that same year I was at home handing out candy with my parents, and we made hot cocoa in our coffee mugs. The cocoa was hot which made holding the mugs uncomfortable. I told my parents that I wanted to come up with a solution to keep our hands comfortable. I researched several ideas and came up with a pattern that would accommodate a standard coffee shop cup, a fast food cup, and also a coffee mug. The Coffee Cuff was born!
By the time the craft show came around, I had a large amount of inventory of both clay and fabric creations. That year, wearing lanyards were required at both the middle school and high school. So, I created lanyards as well.
I believe that art has the ability to heal and soothe the soul. It has definitely done that for me. In the summer of 2019, I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Pseudotumor Cerebri, and Aquagenic Urticaria. I don’t want to be defined as a victim, I want to be defined as a warrior and a fighter. I want to create and do things as long as I am able. The act of creating makes me feel better than any medicine ever could.
